In case you need another reason to head to Bora Bora
It is literally on the other side of the planet, right in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and required us three layovers to reach from Dubai. Nonetheless, if you’re looking for the trip of a lifetime, look no further than Bora Bora.
Mixing relaxation and discovery, romantic escape and adventure, this Polynesian gem should be one of the top places on your travel bucket list. Here are a few reasons for making the effort to travel to the other end of the world:
Gorgeous above and below water
Home to one of the world’s most diverse marine life, Bora Bora is a must visit for all diving enthusiasts. From over 500 specifies of fish to rays, dolphins, turtles and even humpback whales, the island’s waters are home to an incredible variety of marine life. Even for those that are not into diving, a snorkeling tour around the island’s reef is more than enough to take you to a completely new world.
Sleep atop the turquoise lagoon
Although they don’t come cheap, most of the island’s luxury hotels offer guests the chance to stay in overwater bungalows atop the lagoon’s crystal blue waters. It can’t get more original than staring down at the passing fish through your room’s glass coffee table!
Home of infamous black pearls
Bora Bora is home to the famous Tahitian black pearls. Visit the workshops and museums to learn about these special pearls or indulge and buy some stunning jewelry pieces from the island’s many jewelers and craft shops.
Enjoy the local cuisine
The island offers excellent food options, with a variety of both local and international cuisines with a heavy emphasis on seafood and home grown fruits. Poisson Cru, consisting of raw tuna marinated with lime, sliced vegetables and coconut, is one of the local specialties and is a must-try.
Sway away with the Tahitian culture
Music and dance are the main elements of the traditional island culture. People love dancing to the tune of traditional music, which uses drums, nasal flutes, and even shells. As a guest, you will be happily welcomed to participate in these traditional dances while wearing local costumes.
It’s not just about relaxing
Although relaxing by the clear blue waters and enjoying the postcard setting will likely be your main activity (ie. just chilling!), the island also offers a wide range of activities, including parasailing, jet skiing, 4×4 safaris, and even shopping for art and souvenirs in the village on the main island.
Words cannot do justice to the island’s charm and sheer beauty. It’s not the easiest place to get to and it doesn’t come cheap but if you truly want a piece of heaven on earth and want to try something different, Bora Bora is the place to go.
