Review: Guest House Vienna Boutique Hotel

Location

Located within Vienna’s Innere Stadt district immediately behind the State Opera and the Albertina Museum, the location couldn’t get any better. Most of Vienna’s famous sights and museums, including the major museums and Stephanplatz area are within walking distance. The Karlsplatz hub metro station is also conveniently less than 5 minutes walk away.

Design and Amenities

The 39 room boutique hotel features a  sleek modern design courtesy of famed British interior designer Sir Terence Conran. The rooms are designed to make you feel at home, are relatively large, and include a sofa and living area. All rooms come equipped with amenities such as coffee machine and mini fridge where all wine, beer, and soft drinks are available free of charge. One of the most original designs of the room were the windows which are designed as mini alcoves where one can cuddle up with a book or cup of coffee while enjoying the view of the Opera.  Definitely my favorite part of the stay!

Service

Faultless. The staff was always available and everyone from the bellhop to the receptionist greeted us by name from the first day. It’s also the little touches that count, such as the tourist guide on arrival or a small pack of business cards with our name and the contact details of the hotel (an original idea!).  As we were traveling with a one-year old baby, the staff equipped the room with a cot with some baby toiletry essentials ahead of our arrival. Given the size of the hotel, services and amenities are limited and there’s no pool, spa, etc

Food & Beverage

Breakfast lunch and dinner are served in a small brasserie on the ground floor. Breakfast is a la carte only, and can be served either in the brasserie or delivered to the room.  We didn’t try the brasserie and opted to have breakfast in the room during our stay.

Overall, we loved the hotel and the staff really made us feel like we were at home. I personally would have preferred a hotel with more classical architecture to fit the rich history and the Baroque architecture of the city’s surrounding museums and palaces but that’s not really a disadvantage and I’d gladly go back the next time I’m in Vienna.
